Chariot's great for beginners and even veterans who realize they might have made a stupid move, and World is a very unique (and complex, if you're doing some post-game events) way to implement a new game plus feature.
The Chariot and World systems are genius. They made monsters in general much stronger to compensate, for example.
I also agree that the FFT influence did make the game a lot easier, but there's still a good level of challenge. That's one of the things that irked me a little bit about the game, as the Ogre series has its own strong mythology and doesn't need to be corrupted by other series' influence. You're right in that they tried to "Ivalicify" the game in the remake, both in terms of gameplay and in the story a little too (at least the localization, with such things as calling Dorgalua the "Dynast-King"). It adds on to and updates a ton of its systems, and succeeds brilliantly in so many cases that it's again among the very top tier of SRPGs. The remake does a fantastic job of updating the rock-solid core gameplay of Tactics Ogre in a modern context. Finally got my PSP and a chance to enjoy it along with you a bit later, haha.Īrchers were even more overpowered in the original, so I can't hold that against the game. I remember us talking about this game when it came out, Cthulhu.
